Born in 1938, Jim Coy is the next to youngest out of nine children. He dropped out of school in the 8th grade and joined the Marines at 18. After a heart attack, Jim was medically discharged from the Marines at the rank of private first class. This was just the first out of five heart attacks that he would have, where two of them would result in open heart surgery (both of which being triple bypass). In 1974, Jim was in a car accident that flung him through a windshield, breaking all of his ribs, and sadly killing his late wife, Tina. He had a brain aneurism in 1993, and has fought through skin, prostate, and lung cancer.
Jim Coy is my grandfather. That man is the strongest and most resilient person I have ever met, and my family and I have always said that he has nine lives. My mom also says that God keeps sending him back because he still has more to do here on this earth. I have chosen to focus my biography project on my pap, the man with nine lives. Not only has he lived through these traumatic events, but he has lived through some incredible events as well. He has two wonderful daughters (my mother, Chinene, and my Aunt, Heidi), he was able to remarry, he was able to purchase and run a restaurant with his current wife, Beckie, and now has four grandchildren.
To say that he has had a colorful life would be an understatement. I am looking forward to learning more about my grandfather's past 82 years, and allowing my fellow peers, family, and friends to be exposed to the completely unaverage life of my grandfather, Jim Coy.
